Healthy Snack Ideas

It seems as if everyone loves snacking. I'll be honest, I'm in the minority here because I am not a huge snacker. I typically prefer to follow intermittent fasting and eat bigger meals, less often. However, since getting pregnant, snacking definitely seems to be occurring more frequently since bigger meals don't sit too well in my stomach anymore. Many times I'll see "weight loss" articles and such giving advice that if you're trying to lose weight you should cut out the snacks. To be frank, this advice is trash. Weight loss comes down to the energy balance you have - eating fewer calories than your maintenance and increasing your energy output in the form of exercise and/or NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis). So, snack … [Read more...]

Add Some ZING to Your Breakfast

Breakfast time is my favorite time of the day. Seriously.. I go to bed dreaming of the morning and excited to wake up for two things: coffee and food. I could actually eat breakfast food all day, every day if I could. And lets not get started on coffee - you all know how obsessed I am with the stuff. Who's with me? ;) One thing that I cannot go without in the morning is sweetener. I'm not the type of person who can drink coffee un-sweetened or eat oatmeal without any type of sweetener to spruce things up a bit. I like things to be tasty and delicious, not only nutritious and satisfying. Born Sweet® Zing™ Zero Calorie Stevia Sweetener sent me some of their stevia packets to try and I tested them out on multiple things. The verdict? … [Read more...]

High Protein Peanut Butter Cookies

Everyone loves cookies, am I right? Right. If you try to argue with me on that one, at least everyone loves peanut butter. Whoever doesn't CANNOT BE TRUSTED. Just kidding. Sort of. So I was told I had a pinched nerve in my lower back the other day, since I've been dealing with some sciatica pain for a couple weeks. Little old me felt tightness in my hamstring for the longest time and I ignored it anyway, and even decided that doing legs 3x a week was a great idea. Brilliant, Brittany, brilliant. So the other day at the gym I was doing hack squats, and I kind of felt something pop. I was just like oh well, I'll be fine. Typical. You know what that did for me? Nada. Ignoring an injury is probably the dumbest thing you can do, … [Read more...]

High-Protein French Toast

Let's just take a moment of silence to admire this beautiful plate of french toast..... Okay, good. Now that we got that out of the way, lets talk about this french toast! It has been for EVER since I've had some french toast, but the other day I got the biggest craving for it. I had recently bought a loaf of trader joes light bread, and I knew it would be perfect for this recipe. Actually, lets be real, I bought that loaf of bread specifically for the french toast. Less carbs per slice = more slices. Volume food 101 people. Anyway, it's super easy to make. I kind of just threw ingredients into a bowl and prayed to the toast God's that it would workout. That's how I roll with recipes these days - the simpler, the … [Read more...]

What Food I’ve Been Eating and Loving Lately

We all love food, am I right? RIGHT. How about we take a look at what I've been eating lately? It's more of a conglomeration of food I've been eating in the past couple of weeks, not in one day.     Omelet variations! Normall I just do veggies and feta/goat cheese, but throwing black beans and mexican cheese was a good switch up. Topped with salsa, delicious.   Fruit, but more specifically, MANGOES. I'm obsessed, they are so good.   These little pints of heaven. Arctic zero sent me their chunky pints.. SO GOOD. So much better than their non-chunky flavors. I'm a sucker for stuff with chunks or crunch.   That cookie dough though.. my favorite flavor, for … [Read more...]

Get Down With Protein Up

I am a huge fan of protein. I am definitely not one of those people who have trouble hitting their protein requirements for the day. In fact, I tend to go over my protein allotment, and I have trouble keeping it within the proper amount. I think if I were to turn into a certain food that I eat a lot, it would be chicken. I just love high protein foods. But you know what I also love? CARBS. Bread. Yes. Who doesn't? Seriously though, don't lie to me people.  So if you could get a carb product with higher protein, wouldn't it be the BEST PRODUCT EVER? I think so. Especially for the people who do tend to have trouble hitting their protein requirements daily. So, lets talk about these Flat Out Wraps. These are the answer to your … [Read more...]

Strawberry-Apple Cinnamon Protein Muffins

I always say I'm going to start coming up with more healthy recipes and never happens. I love to bake though, and especially make my own homemade healthy protein bars. I love my store bought bars but dang, they can get expensive. I'm all about saving money where I can, and making your own protein treats are definitely the way to go. I finally had a chance to come up with a new recipe the other day on my day off. I basically threw a bunch of ingredients that I had at home into a bowl, mixed it, added in some chocolate chips, and luckily it was a success! I'm so professional. At least I'm honest, right? I'll never be a legit chef, but I can pretend ;) These muffins have almost an equal amount of carbs and protein, and … [Read more...]

Gluten, Dairy, and Egg Free Pumpkin Protein Bars

Soooo, pretty sure I've covered all the bases of what these bars can be free of. Although they are free of some of the main allergens, they certainly aren't free of taste. That's all that matters, right? Yes. I make protein bars every week as part of my food prep, and I've always been interested to try one without eggs. Variety is the spice of life, but I was always too scared though because seriously, wtf do you use in place of eggs? I'm no chef or recipe master, so I just decided to wing the crap out of it and hope for the best. First thing I did, I made chia pudding. Yeah, that's right. Sounds like it has nothing to do with protein bars... but trust me. Chia Pudding 1/2 C. Chia Seeds 1 1/2 C. … [Read more...]
