How To Build Lean Muscle

When people say they want to build "lean muscle" or they are going on a "lean bulk" what they are essentially saying is that they are going to build muscle and bulk in a controlled manner. There is just MUSCLE. Not lean, not bulky. It's all the same muscle. Similarly with the word toned - there is no such thing as being "toned". What toned actually means is that the person who you are referring to as "toned", has taken time to build muscle and then also took time to shed the fat to reveal that muscle. On the opposite side of the spectrum is what we call a "dirty bulk" which in the bodybuilding world simply means to YOLO your diet, eat as much as you can, and just focus on gaining weight and not caring if it's fat or muscle. What’s In My Gym Bag?

I normally go to the gym with 2-3 things: my phone, my amino cocktail, and my body. Simple and effective. I never brought a gym bag for that reason, but also because I never had one! I was sent the Fitmark athletic tote, and I.am.obsessed. So glad I finally have a gym bag, and not to mention it's super cute. And huge. It's basically my own Mary Poppins bag. Without further ado, here are my gym essentials: Amino cocktail with creatine, glutamine, BCAA's, and water with flavor enhancers in my slap nutrition shaker. Water Enhancers Protein Bar Tripod Fanny Pack Ankle Strap for the Booty Jump Rope Vibrams Deodorant Hair Spray Hair Tie's Headphones   What's in your gym bag? Must-have thing … [Read more...]

The “Healthier” I Ate, the Worse I Felt

When I first started embarking on a healthier lifestyle, I went full-force into it. I basically took the "all or nothing" route, as I tend to do with many things. That's just my personality - I usually feel that if I'm not giving 150%, there's no point. However, I have to disagree with myself on this one. You see, I immediately started eating completely "clean", whatever that means. Basically nothing processed, nothing artificial, nothing packaged, etc. which was a huge change from my normal diet. Yes, I started losing weight, and yes I did feel healthy and great at first. Remember what I said about my personality being full-force? Well yeah, I got SO strict with myself and only ate a select few foods. Not only that, but I … [Read more...]

Five Reasons We Shouldn’t Get Stressed Over the Holiday’s

Whenever the holiday's are coming up, I see people freaking out, getting stressed, and not even enjoying this time of the year. Between Christmas shopping, food shopping, wrapping gifts, holiday parties, cooking, etc. people seem to find ways to stress themselves out. I never understood it - isn't this time of the year supposed to be happy and jolly? That's how I see it. Since stress plays a huge role in mental and physical health, this is why I want to talk about this subject. I even tweeted yesterday about how I felt like the only one not stressed that Christmas was a couple days away. My own father tweeted me back (yup, he's on twitter ha!), and said it's because I'm not a parent yet. I understand that in a sense, but I also don't … [Read more...]

Definition of a Healthy Lifestyle

Woke up this morning ready to get the day started. On a Monday. Maybe it was the fact that I had a great Easter? Or the fact that it was actually cool out and I wanted to go for a run! Perfect since it's the Boston Marathon today. Good luck to everyone that is running! I laced up my shoes and went for a run. I've actually been really enjoying morning runs lately, and have been doing them 2-3 times a week and then lifting later in the day. Works perfect and starts my morning on a great note, and I also have energy for lifting later in the day! We shall see how long this lasts... ha.   I posted this on my instagram yesterday because I wanted to make sure everyone really enjoyed their holiday (if they … [Read more...]
