Stepping Outside Your Comfort Zone

Yesterday on instagram I wrote about some of my goals for the new year. I don’t really set resolutions, because lets be real, I forget about them in like a month. I can barely remember to change the year to 2015 when I’m writing it.. aka I write 2014 until about August and then finally get the hang of it. Resolutions, what?

But, I do think it’s good to acknowledge the year that just passed and recognize the good things that occurred and why they made an impact in your life. This past year was honestly one of the best I’ve had in my life. So many things happened for the better, I’ve grown so much as a person, and I’ve experienced a ton of new experiences that I probably wouldn’t have if I didn’t take risks.

For me, the main thing that I changed this past year was stepping outside my comfort zone. I did things that I never imagined I would do or be comfortable doing, and truly did take risks. I attribute this tiny little action to making it my best year yet.

I crossed things off my bucket list, and gained a new sense of confidence in myself. Not only physically, but mentally as well. I used to think I wasn’t capable of the unimaginable. I never thought I’d be capable of winning a bikini competition, but I did. I never thought I’d be capable of making my life-long modeling dream more of a reality, but I’ve made more strides in that path than I have in my entire life. I now know that ANYTHING is possible if you really try and step outside your comfort zone.

The thing with comfort zones is that they are comfortable. Obviously. It’s human nature not to always be open to change, inconvenience, or doing things that you aren’t comfortable with. But nothing ever grows in comfort zone’s. If you are stuck there, everything will always be the same. You need to take risks, and beautiful things will happen. It happened for me this past year, and now I know that I need to continue to do this. This includes saying YES to more things. I’m so quick to say “no” to anything that I don’t want to do. I am challenging myself, and I challenge you to try to say YES as much as possible. Take risks. Do things you never imagined you could do. Chase your dreams. Amazing things will start to happen, just watch.

Have you noticed a change stepping outside your comfort zone?

What is a story of that you’d like to share? I’d love to hear it!

  1. I stepped a lot outside my comfort zone last year too and it feels really liberating. I think it changes your outlook on life and the future. 2015 is going to be a good year!

  2. Totally! We only grow and achieve unimaginable things when we stop letting fear hold us back from what we really do want in life!

  3. LOVE this. So proud of you and everything you’ve accomplished in the past year and I can’t wait to see what 2015 has in store…I know it’s going to be unbelievable. 🙂

    xo

  4. What are you doing to step outside your comfort zone this year?

  5. So so true. What an amazing 2014 you had! Here’s to an even better 2015 🙂
Last year I moved to Argentina for 6 months knowing no-one and my Spanish not being great and I LOVED it. Now, I feel so much better in myself knowing what I’m capable of 🙂
    Happy New Year!

  6. Great post!

I have stepped out of my comfort zone in SO many ways the past year. Conquering my eating disorder is a MAJOR step. I am eating foods I have not tasted in 15-20 years! I am doing well (of course I have negative thoughts still) but I am fighting those and doign what is right for me and my body

-Telling people HOW I feel, even if it is upsetting or something they would NOT want to hear ( I used to be a people pleaser, avoided any conflict even if my own hapiness suffered)

  7. Oh yes!! First of all, congrats on all the achievements and that pic is simply amazing!
I definitely grew in the past 2 years with leaving my ED behind and starting CrossFit – this year I will change jobs and do more what I love to do. Scary but exciting!

  8. You are so gorgeous! Well done for stepping out of your comfort zone in 2014 – keep it up in 2015!

  9. Stepping outside your comfort zone is hard! Change is uncomfortable but it’s necessary to move forward. Blogging and telling people I blog is really hard for me. I like to hide behind my computer. I love all the people I have connected with but I have a hard time sharing the blog outside of this little bubble. That is a big goal of mine for 2015.
