Lets talk fear. Even saying the word can get your skin crawling, no? I know it does for me. I feel as if everyone can relate to fear in various different ways and for various different situations. Sure, it can mean something you have a literal fear of, such as heights, or cockroaches lets say. However, the type of fear I’m talking about is the one that hold’s you back from the things you want to do and accomplish in your life. You know, the siamese twin to the phrase “what if”. Don’t even get me started on this “what if” character. It certainly has the ability to dictate the decisions you make in your life – I know it has for me in the past.
Have you ever wanted to do something, but you were afraid that you were going to fail? Yup. I’m sure anyone reading this can relate. Regardless of what it was, we all go through the what if this happens, what if that happens, what if I fail, what if blah blah blah blah blah. Man, there are so many times in my life that I have done this, and heck, I STILL do this to this day, even though I’ve gotten a lot better at ignoring that negative voice.
So many times there are things that we want to do and we end up not going through with it ONLY BECAUSE OF FEAR. How dumb is that? Sure, you should absolutely weigh the pro’s and con’s to every situation and have a plan of attack. However, there will always be positives and negatives to every situation. There will always be road block’s. There will always be tough times. And yes, maybe you will fail, but you just get back up and keep on trying.
The problem lies in not even TRYING. If you never try, then 100% nothing will happen. If you do try, at least you have a chance that what you want WILL happen. Think about it.
Sure, failure is a part of life, but that is literally the worst thing that can happen. Why is that so scary? That doesn’t mean it will NEVER happen, it just means that it isn’t going to happen just yet.
I always say, if there is something you want, JUST.FREAKING.DO.IT.
Have you ever head of the quote, “What if I fall? Oh darling, but what if you fly?”
That’s the type of what if I can get down with. This has been on my mind lately because let me tell you, the times I have stepped outside of my comfort zone, pushed the fear into the ground, and just went for something I wasn’t sure of, are the times that INCREDIBLE things have happened.
So, how do you not allow fear to hold you back in life?
1. Picture what you want, and do what you have to do to get it.
2. Know that you may fail, but that is simply a learning experience. That doesn’t mean it’s not meant to be.
3. Remember that if you don’t try, then it is a sure thing you won’t achieve your goal. However, if you do, there IS a chance that you will succeed.
4. Change your mindset – tell yourself that you WILL succeed and picture it. I bet if you do that, you will. The mind is a powerful thing.
5. JUST DO IT. Seriously. It’s really as simple as that.
Have you ever let fear hold you back from something in life?
