How To Make Zoats – Zucchini Oatmeal

September 23, 2015

I know, I know, you’re probably thinking “why the heck would I put zucchini in my oatmeal?”. I thought the same thing before I tried it, trust me! I definitely cannot take credit for this at all, I saw a bunch of people on instagram, YouTube, etc. post about this and I always thought it sounded strange. However, after trying it, I am hooked!

There are a couple of reasons to put zucchini in your oatmeal:

  1. It’s a great way to sneak in some extra veggies.
  2. It looks fun to eat green food (especially for kids)!
  3. VOLUME!!! <—- this is most important. They make the oats much more voluminous than it is on its own!

It’s honestly the easiest thing to do as well. You can make them on the stovetop, but I use my favorites Coach’s Oats and just do it in the microwave – 4 minutes and done. Here is how I make my Zoats:

Step 1:

Put oats in a bowl, and get grater.

Step 2:

Grate zucchini over the dry oats – you can do however much you want. I usually just use half of a zucchini and only grate the green part.

It’ll look like this.

Step 3:

Add 1 cup of water.

Step 4:

Put in microwave for 4 minutes at 70% power. Once it’s done, just mix together, add your sweetener and anything else you want.

Voila! Easy as that. You get a big bowl of filling oats, and some extra micronutrients from the zucchini 🙂 And no, you can’t taste it at all!

Have you ever tried Zoats?

What is your favorite way to eat oats?

    1. I have heard of Zoats before but no one has ever inspired me to make them until this:) I’m also dying to try Coach’s oats now too. I think it’s interesting that you just use the peel, any reason why? I have used frozen zucchini cubes in place of frozen bananas in a smoothie recipe before to thicken it without so much sugar and I LOVE how much volume it has. Definitely have to try this, thanks!

      1. They are amazing! I just use the peel because the white part is a little more liquidy.
