Reality of Bikini Prep – Will I Ever Compete Again?

This past weekend I competed in my second, and most likely, my last bikini competition. Prior to this weekend, I competed one other time in October of 2014. I had a decent prep and ended up winning my class at the show in 2014 and I thought I really enjoyed competing. I decided to take quite a bit of time off after my body not responding to another prep that I tried to start in February of 2015. I ended up taking over a year off, and it was definitely needed in order to make the improvements I needed. I decided to try to prep again in January 2016, and I decided I was going to compete no matter what. Well, little did I know, my body wasn't going to respond once again to dieting and prepping and I had one of the hardest preps … [Read more...]

Will Getting Leaner Make You Happier?

You wake up, head over to the scale, weigh yourself, and BAM - your mood instantly declines. You look in the mirror and immediately, your eyes start scanning your body and your mind is only focusing on the things you don't like about yourself. All you can see is every imperfection, everything you don't like about your body, everything you want/wish you could change about it. You tell yourself "I'm going to get leaner, and then I'll be happy". Does this sound familiar to you? I know it does to me. I've been there, and I can tell you from first hand experience that leaner does NOT equal happier. In fact, it actually turns out quite the opposite. If you start your fitness journey hating your body, you certainly won't learn to love it … [Read more...]

Five Tips to Help Increase Your Self-Acceptance

One of my soul sisters and I usually share our daily devotionals with one another each morning, especially if it’s a good one and strikes a chord within ourselves. I figured I would share mine from this morning about Self Acceptance, because I feel like so many of us can relate - regardless if you are religious or not. “You may not think highly of yourself, but God wants you to like who you are. “ Here are 5 tips to help increase your self-acceptance and improve your opinion of yourself: 1.Never speak negatively about yourself - acknowledge every good thing in you, not focusing on the wrong. 2.Avoid comparing yourself to others.  3.Let God determine your worth. Remember that you have already been accepted by God. 4.Keeps your … [Read more...]

Swanson Vitamin Natural & Cruelty Free Cosmetics

I've recently been looking into purchasing more natural cosmetics, as well as ones that are cruelty free. What you put into your body is important, but so is what you put on your body. My go-to is always Burt's Bee's products, and that's what I've been using for moisturizer and things like that, but I wanted to give some other brands a go to experiment with some new products. Swanson Vitamins actually reached out to me about their site. I've actually ordered from them before, and I'm definitely a fan. I love buying certain products online because it's usually cheaper and just easier to do to. There are tons of online stores similar to Swanson, but I really like how they offer more of a variety of things and not just food. Their products … [Read more...]

Ignite Your Fitness – Puma Ignite XT

I think you all know my obsession with workout attire. I'm such a sucker for cute & comfy workout clothes, especially since I work from home that is basically all I wear. I'm either dressed like I'm going to the gym, or I'm going to the gym. ;) Not only that, but when look cute in the gym, I perform better. Call me crazy, but it's true! If I feel uncomfortable or don't like what I'm wearing, then that's what I focus on instead of my actual workout. Look good, feel good, perform good! I was lucky enough to be chosen to work with Puma for their forever faster campaign, where they focus on constantly innovating to produce new standards for fitness and fashion. Puma kindly sent me a pair of leggings, a sports bra, t-shirt, and most … [Read more...]

IIFYM Full Day of Eating

I haven't been super strict with tracking my macros lately, and it has been a nice break. However, I have some new goals and I'm the type of person that craves consistency, structure, and a plan. Call me crazy, but it's just how I am! I was watching an old video that I posted on my channel (about 4 months ago) when I pulled out of prep, and I stated that I probably wanted to start a prep in August. I thought about it, but I will be traveling in the beginning of December and I absolutely do not want to be on prep at that time. I do, however, want to start leaning out a bit. My reason for this is simple - my long term goals are more important to me right now than stepping on stage in a few months. Long term I really want to be able to … [Read more...]

What you Need to Know About Scalp & Hair Health

I get so many comments and questions about my hair, so today I figured I'd address some of that and talk about hair health. First things first, your hair health starts with your diet. Getting enough nutrients, a good balance of macros, health fats, etc. are all important to your hair. Second thing that's important is a health scalp! A health, happy scalp means healthy hair. I was recently sent CLEAR SCALP & HAIR™ shampoo and conditioner to try out, and I am a HUGE fan! I am usually very picky about the hair products I use, because my hair is usually pretty hoarse, frizzy, and unruly. Finding the right products can be a struggle for me, but I am happy to report that these products passed my test with flying colors. A little … [Read more...]

Body Image Talk – How to Stay Positive

Lets talk body image. I really try to be as transparent and honest as I possibly can with you all. Social media has the tendency to make it seem like everyone's life is all sunshine and butterflies, but in reality, EVERYONE has problems. Everyone struggles, and no one is perfect. I'm constantly preaching to love your body at every stage but honestly, I struggle with doing so. Last week I literally just started crying. I'm not as lean as I was, I don't have abs, I have more cellulite than before, a lot of my clothes do not fit me, and mix that with some PMS/hormones and the outcome is a nice, big cry.  I did this for a couple days, and I was just wallowing in my own sorrow. I felt really unmotivated to even workout and just was not … [Read more...]

Upper Body Pump Workout

Lately I've been switching up my split pretty much every week. I'm finally able to work legs again, so I'm definitely happy I can incorporate them back in! As for my upper body, it's always some sort of push/pull split. Since my best friend has been in town for a couple of weeks, we got a lift in! You can watch the entire workout here: Basically we did an "upper pump" day, which is focused more on hypertrophy rather than strength. Hypertrophy is basically anything from 6-12 reps, and by definition means the enlargement of an organ or tissue from the increase in size of its cells.  When programming, you want to have a mix of strength (1-5 reps) and hypertrophy, which I explained above. This allows you to reap the benefits of … [Read more...]
