“Best Exercises for Women” Articles Need to Go

So. I’m sure you’ve seen “best exercises for women” articles PLENTY of times. I see them everywhere. In magazines, on website, in ads, etc. I get it, it’s advertising.

The thing is, the best exercises are UNISEX. There really aren’t best exercises for women, and then separate ones for men.

Some of the best exercises overall, are the compound movements – squats, deadlifts, bench press, overhead press, pull-ups, push-ups, planks, etc.

There are certain exercises that target different body parts if that’s what you’re looking for, but again, it’s not only for women, or only for men.

Of course, the number of sets and reps you do are different for everyone, depending on your goals. However, it’s individualized from person to person. One lady could be focused on powerlifting, so the number of reps and the weight she uses will be a lot different (for strength) than the lady that focuses on aesthetics and sticking to hypertrophy (muscle growth).

I think we all know by now that women will NOT get bulky by lifting heavy weights. So why should we do different exercises than men? We shouldn’t!

I saw the MOST progress when I started lifting some serious weight, and doing some of the same exercises that I saw the guys doing. And let me tell you, nothing beats feeling strong. Such an amazing feeling.

I think it’s time for these articles to retire.

Lift heavy shit. Show up those guys in the weight room and own it 😉

  1. I really dislike those types of articles as well as the ones that say “You’ll burn 500 calories with this fat-blasting workout.” How do they know how many calories I will burn? They don’t. Period. And same for the 1200 or 1500 calorie diet advice.

  2. YES. Thank you. If I see one more toning exercise for women I might just flip a shit. Go squat ladies. And not just on the smith machine. 😉

    I can’t stand the male/female dichotomy OR the ‘best exercise for blah’ posts. There are so many great exercises, some are better for different goals/people etc.
