Behind the Blogger: Part 1

Hi loves! Since I'm trying to get back to blogging regularly after a long hiatus, I thought it would be fun to dive a little more into who I am as a person. Especially since times have changed a LOT since I was blogging regularly - I have grown and evolved as a person, and life has changed drastically. Of course, there are so many things that have remained the same, as I am still the same person at my core. I also believe there is more than meets the eye, or shall I say, social media channels. Most of you who know me probably immediately think of health and fitness when you see or hear my name. While health and fitness is one of the biggest parts of my life, it isn't the only part and it isn't my only passion. There is more to me than … [Read more...]

Body Image Struggles During Pregnancy

Yesterday, I realized I was 16 weeks pregnant. Yesterday marked the beginning of month five of this pregnancy, which is just C R A Z Y to me. I can still feel the tightness in my chest, the dizziness, the nervousness, the pressure in my cheeks because they hurt from smiling so hard, and the extreme excitement/hyperventilation when I saw those positive pregnancy tests on June 24, 2017. If you've followed me for a long time, you know how badly I've always wanted to be a mom. As an extremely indecisive person, being a mom has been the only thing that I have always been 100% sure of. I have always stated that I feel as if it is my purpose in life. Can we have more than one purpose? In my opinion, absolutely. However, my other purposes in … [Read more...]

I’M PREGNANT!

If you follow me on Instagram, Youtube, Twitter or Snapchat, you may have already heard the news. If not, I'm sure you can guess from the title :) Yes, I am in fact pregnant with my first child and I couldn't be more excited!!!!! Those of you who really know me or have been keeping up with my journey for a while, know that I always say that my purpose in life is to become a mama. After going through amenorrhea, losing my period, and just tons of ups and downs in my health and fitness journey, I am beyond blessed that I have the opportunity to create life and bring a child into this world. I couldn't be more grateful. I pray every single day and thank God for this opportunity, and I truly believe things happen for a reason. Everything … [Read more...]

How To Build Lean Muscle

When people say they want to build "lean muscle" or they are going on a "lean bulk" what they are essentially saying is that they are going to build muscle and bulk in a controlled manner. There is just MUSCLE. Not lean, not bulky. It's all the same muscle. Similarly with the word toned - there is no such thing as being "toned". What toned actually means is that the person who you are referring to as "toned", has taken time to build muscle and then also took time to shed the fat to reveal that muscle. On the opposite side of the spectrum is what we call a "dirty bulk" which in the bodybuilding world simply means to YOLO your diet, eat as much as you can, and just focus on gaining weight and not caring if it's fat or muscle. I personally … [Read more...]

What NOT to Do When Trying to Lose Weight

The act of weight loss or fat loss has become so complicated for so many people due to all of the misconceptions, scams, and (excuse my language) bullshit that has surrounded it. Between crash dieting, crazy different diets, cutting out entire food groups, detox teas, waist trainers, and a ton of other irrational ways to " lose weight", no wonder people are confused! Today I want to squash all of those illogical weight loss tips you hear and to help you and correct some of the mistakes you may have made or could have made. Do not crash diet & do not have unrealistic expectations. This is so important. Crash dieting can cause major harm in the long run, and it is NOT something you will be able to sustain. You want … [Read more...]

Lost Your Period? Why You Lost It & How To Get It Back

A healthy, functioning female body gets a monthly visitor known as menstruation. The uterus gets thicker to prepare for a fertilized egg if a woman is to become pregnant. If she doesn't, the lining is released, and is known as a period, aunt FLO, mother nature, whatever you want to call it. All women get periods for a reason, obviously for pregnancy, but also because it's a natural function of a woman's body. Not getting your period is a sign that something is up, and in this case, I'm covering why women may not get their period in the fitness industry. **This also does NOT include those women that are on birth control. However, sometimes birth control can mask these issues without women even realizing it.** First of all, there may be … [Read more...]

Don’t Compare Yourself.. To Yourself

"Don't compare yourself to others." I'm sure you've heard this phrase over and over, and for good reason. Comparing yourself to other people is a waste of time, energy, and emotion that probably isn't positive. I know that the time I've spend comparing myself to other people tend to be negative and simply put me down. It happens sometimes still, but I'm much more aware of it and catch myself once I start to fall into this comparison trap. You may be nodding your head in agreement, and maybe you're thinking that you are guilty of doing the same thing. However, what about comparing yourself to yourself? You know, maybe you competed in a fitness competition and now you are 1, 2, 5+ months or weeks post competition and you notice that … [Read more...]

Reality of Bikini Prep – Will I Ever Compete Again?

This past weekend I competed in my second, and most likely, my last bikini competition. Prior to this weekend, I competed one other time in October of 2014. I had a decent prep and ended up winning my class at the show in 2014 and I thought I really enjoyed competing. I decided to take quite a bit of time off after my body not responding to another prep that I tried to start in February of 2015. I ended up taking over a year off, and it was definitely needed in order to make the improvements I needed. I decided to try to prep again in January 2016, and I decided I was going to compete no matter what. Well, little did I know, my body wasn't going to respond once again to dieting and prepping and I had one of the hardest preps … [Read more...]

When Should You Make Changes to Your Macros?

I get so many questions around the topic of macros - what should they be, when should I adjust, should I carb cycle, is there a specific percentage to use, how do you know if they're working, etc. I think one of the most common questions though is in regards to when you should CHANGE your macros, or adjust them. Lets say you've decided to figure out your macros on your own and do this without a coach. Great! It can certainly be done, you just have to be patient and know when to make changes and pay attention to your body. Okay, so you have your macros. You've started at this certain caloric range, a specific number of carbs, proteins, and fats, and you have started weighing your food and tracking these targeted macros. But then you … [Read more...]
